lunar eclipse
The lunar eclipse the other night was beautiful. It's very easy to see the night sky out where we live, a good hour and a half away from the Atlanta city lights. Don't get me wrong being in the city has its advantages...but living in the country does to.
I think many people get surprised to find out that our rehearsal space is actually in a barn. Its right inside a valley in the North Georgia mountains (I use the term "mountains" rather loosely...more like hills really). We are surrounded on all sides by farms and cow pastures...so all the stars usually don't seem to far away when you look up in the sky after our rehearsals. Its a great place to be and a great place to create.
I've done nothing today however, but watch Japanese horror films...eat some pancakes and get my stuff together so that I'm ready for tonight's rehearsal. [Those Japanese horror flix I borrowed from a friend...and I must say, even though I'm probably one of the last to jump on the wagon for that genre, they were perfect] These new songs are incredible, we've nearly replaced all of our old songs in our set with never before heard new material. We're going to debut them all this coming week in Atlanta at Lenny's JAPAN PARTY!!!
It should be a really great time, costume contests, cheap PBR, dance party and live music by us, THE MODERN SOCIETY, Sonen & Judi Chicago. So if you are in town, come down and I'll buy you a drink.
Hope to see you there!

chi cerca trova
Its hard for me to find a good Italian place with authentic food and a good atmosphere. Tonight I ate at my favorite place, this side of the Altantic...and if you ever find yourself in the the tacky land of Helen, Georgia...go to La Piazza's...I promise you will not regret it. The owner/cook who comes from Italy changs the menu frequently and has an assortment of daily specials that he makes to order. I recommend (if its there) the Chicken Michaelangelo.
The whole place is about as big as my bedroom, with 5 or 6 tables, but the atmosphere will instantly remind you of a little place off the beaten path somewhere tucked behind the cobblestone streets of Florence, Italy.

White teeth, red lips, and always dark around the eyes...
...So, the creative juices are hitting an all time high and new songs are flowing like wine; I'm hoping we finish up at least two or three more tunes even before we hit the west coast. Woody and myself plan on workshop"ing" a bit today to tighten up some harmonies, finish up some lyrics, and bounce some idea's off of each other. It was windy here in the peach state yesterday and I absolutely hate it; needless to say there were words between me and the big man upstairs concerning our deal with winter weather! I've been listening to MGMT and AA. Bondy (American Hearts), I've been really into this underground artist Vincent Hui, and I'm planning on getting back into some sketching myself for a while instead of just relying on paint techniques ( by the way, thats' what I do). Anyway, I'm pretty pumped about our Japan Party show at Lenny's coming up; It's been quite a while since we've played out and there's nothing I love more than Asian inspired banter! You'll find that I'm a pretty random guy and my post's will do nothing but further confirm that. So...be safe, be hip, and we'll see you soon...

pass me down the wine
We met with our new producer last Thursday night (that's right Valentines Day) and a night of proper debauchery ensued. Full of broken peroni glasses, uptight stiffs sitting next to us and free drink offers at The Capitol Grill from some suit who owns a club in Houston...still wasn't the most important bit. The fact that the man that we are putting all of our faith into, the one who will harness our sound and let the world hear it soon, was one of the coolest people I've ever met in my life. He was the most down to Earth individual, and totally gets it, musically I mean... I've never been so excited and can't wait until we leave the dirty south for a few weeks to record our best songs to date.
LA here we come...see you soon.
love,
Woody

greetings on a rainy day
From the very beginning of our existence as a band, we've kept a journal of sorts. Whether it be individually scribbling things down in old beat up composition notebooks, or on the back of napkins or airline tickets...we write what we're thinking down on paper so that we can look back on it some day.
We will still continue to do that (there is, after all, some ancient romantic sense of writing your experiences down on paper and getting a cramp in your hand as you quickly try and capture the moment between the pages) but we have also decided to join the technological advancements of society and begin our very own OFFICIAL blog.
We feel like this is a particularly good time to do so, because we are weeks away from stepping into the studio to record our next full-length album and we want to document our experiences this time much better than we did during the recording of our first album.
If for no other reason, we want to write these words so that in 1 year, or 25 years for that matter, we can look back and read random moments in our history that we may have forgotten.
There will be no editing, there will be no censoring, this is how it happened as told by us...THE MODERN SOCIETY.
